"HEAT AND VIBRATION"! I had one go bad on my Yamaha Virago. The dealer could not prove to me that it was the cause of my miss on one cylinder, but offered to sell me a new one for $450. He also said that if the new one did not cure the problem, I had bought it just the same. Being that I am one hell of a good mechanic and also I know a lot about electrical circuits, I had eliminated all of the common potential faults.

I sat on the problem, for a while until I discovered a lot of other Virago owners had the exact same problem and it was due to a bad "igniter" (cdi ignition box). I learned of a fellow in Illinois that had repaired his Virago and would repair others from the forum if needed, for a price of $85. I sent him mine and he returned it fixed (no more problems).

He said that the original solder joints had hair fractures, SEEN WITH A MICROSCOPE. I would have never guessed that. -------- THE BAD SOLDER JOINTS HAD LOOKED OK to my eye sight!
